Scope and Content Note From the Collection: The collection is composed of material either about or by Bates faculty, staff, alumni, and other people associated with the Bates College, such as honorary degree recipients. Many of the files contain reprints of articles in magazines and journals by Bates authors, and thus, the collection serves as a "vertical files" complement to the Bates Authors Book collection, which also is housed in the Edmund S. This series comprises Muskie's personal files from his tenure as U.S. secretary of state under President Carter and contains personal correspondence, scheduling files, clippings, briefing books, texts of speeches, and files related to Mrs. Muskie.
